If you are already retired or soon will be, the recession has most likely had a horrible impact on retirement accounts. One strategy to employ would be to rebalance and diversify your holdings. The problem of course is in order to rebuild your portfolio-in order to retire comfortably-it might be necessary to add additional funds to the account. Even in the best of times, it is recommended that a portfolio be rebalanced on an annual basis. Rebalancing is simply the process of reallocating components to stocks, bonds, and cash. But reallocation doesn't address underfunding.
When the markets are booming, a high percentage of stock allocation makes perfect sense. When the market takes a bath as it did in the last year, this strategy does not work. Experts also say that it takes a proximately two years of work to recover enough money for one year of retirement over a 20 year period. If you are within those 20 years you may not have enough time to earn sufficient capital to fund your retirement accounts.
For that reason an active retirement might be the solution. In an active retirement you take on a new career so that you have an income that can support your retirement lifestyle. Of course nobody who has spent an entire career working wants to consider the prospect of continuing to work when they are already mentally prepared for retirement. So the key to a career that enables an active retirement is to find one that you completely enjoy. Work is a matter of perception-if you like what you are doing, it won't seem like work.
This is why there has been an explosion in online Internet marketing businesses. Particularly for retirees, an Internet marketing business is a very flexible, comfortable, and lucrative way to earn an income. From the comfort of your own home, you can promote online opportunities, growing a business while helping others to do the same.
It is essential that you obtain a financial education that will equip you with the tools and strategies necessary to survive. By combining a solid financial education with an online marketing business opportunity, you can assure yourself of a comfortable and happy retirement. Tweaking your retirement portfolio is always a good idea. But continuously adding funds to it is an even better one.
