Is it Possible to Make a Living With Revenue Sharing Article Directories?

Expert Author James Nelmondo

The enticing prospect of earning a living from the comfort of my own home, coupled with the unparalleled dream of receiving passive income, led me to try my hand at writing articles for a hand-picked selection of revenue sharing websites.

I began to toy around with established 2.0 platforms such as Hubpages and Squidoo, not as marketing tools, but as earners by their own right. The result, after nearly 3 years of hard work, has been filled with ups-and-downs. Happily, however, the bottom-line is encouraging for those willing to give it a serious shot.

By far the most important weapon is the acquisition of knowledge and marketing expertise. Pure writers who rely primarily on their talent and skill may find it difficult and often frustrating to kick-start their revenue. Writing online requires, at the very least, a superficial knowledge of online marketing principles. Articles need to be written with SEO practices in mind, and publication must be considered only the first step in a long line of marketing procedures.

I began as naively as you could imagine. I wrote articles on personal subjects, of interest to me, and despite the warmth of feedback and encouragement, I failed to gain a foothold on revenue. As time went by I began to learn the intricacies of "making it" in the online competition maelstrom. I bought a popular keyword tool and began to build a routine that became increasingly tailored based on my positive experiences.

Frankly, on occasion, the emphasis on back-linking, social bookmarking and keyword analysis was enough to make me sick. This is when the first hurdle begins to flay at your metaphorical ankles. It takes a great deal more effort and tenacity then I had initially imagined to keep at it.

Eighty articles down the line (of which around 20 were only truly optimized) I began to make my monthly AdSense cash-outs. I had felt the stick, and now I was chewing the carrot. I realized that as time went by, my better articles improved on their own. I began see exponential growth in both views and revenue. Despite my income from my endeavors being decidedly modest, it was incredibly exciting to view the escalation -- and the promise of a dream fulfilled.

I began to learn that people were paying their rents, and others were making a living completely off of their efforts. But this time I believed them. Today, I still haven't reached my goal of making a living off article writing, but I am absolutely positive that with enough time, and enough effort, the goal is absolutely achievable.
