3 Things You Need to Be Safe For a Day on the Frozen Pond

An Ice fishing rod is obviously the one tool you will need to catch the fish out on the ice. The sport of ice fishing is a long standing tradition passed down from father to son. If you are new to the sport, it is important to have the right equipment when out on the ice as you are only a few inches from the frigid waters.

Safety should be a primary concern when you plan your day and these three things will help you in case you run into an issue in the middle of the lake.

One of the most important items to add to your sled is an ice pick. It could literally save your life if the ice begins to break under your feet. Having this basic tool will help you climb your way out if you happen to fall through the ice. It can be strapped to you for easy access if needed.

Number two on the list is ice cleats. These basic devices allow you to maneuver the slippery ice better than standard soles. Nothing could be worse than falling onto the ice and being unable to get up due to an injury. They literally strap onto the bottom of your waterproof boots like tire chains on a car.

Finally, a life vest should be worn at all times in case you happen to fall through the ice. This will keep you afloat while trying to exit the water and buy you time if you are not in good physical condition.

In summary, an ice rod is not only thing you need to do some ice fishing. A little preparation will go a long way toward making your day on the ice fun and safe.

Ice fishing has long been a way for an avid fisherman to follow his passion no matter what season.

Quality Ice Fishing Rods are an essential part of the gear he will take out onto the ice.
