My wife and I are not having this issue but some friends of ours are going through this exact scenario. We will call these people, Jack and Jill. Jill stays at home and is a homemaker and the mother of two children, which she takes care of, while Jack is at work.
Jack has a regular 9-to-5 job. He is able to get out of there right at five on the dot if he so chooses. But that's where the problem comes in because he usually ends up staying way passed what he needs too.
He always has one more thing to do, one more task to complete or one more report to file and it just never ends. This is exactly what is frustrating Jill to no end.
Out of a five day work week, he does this at least three or four times a week. Jill told him the work will be there tomorrow so why stay later than necessary since he is on a salary anyway? He's not being pressured by his boss to stay later.
He's not trying to get a promotion. His job Is very repetitive, and there is no reason why he could not leave at five o'clock when he is done every evening. That way he could get home and spend time with his wife and children.
We suggested that she sit him down and explain to him that family comes first. He has put in his time for the 8 hours he is at the job. So, he needs to leave when he can at 5PM every day and come home to his family who wants to spend time with him.
If you are going through this as well then just follow the above advice and I am sure your spouse will see the light and change for the better.
