Is Your Mindset in Alignment With Success?

Expert Author Sonja Fullwood

As a student of success, it has been said forever that "success begins in the mind." Do you believe this to be true? Or are you a person who has "done all the right things" and still does not have or feel successful? You have prepared, created plans and followed through, been focused, etc. yet success continues to elude you? Have you seen others who have followed a similar path and have been wildly successful? So, what is the real difference? Is it luck or timing, or intelligence, or money? Sometimes those things might factor into a persons success but the biggest thing is what a person believes and what a person holds in their minds.

Let's explore and define what mind-set means. Generally a mind-set refers to a persons main state of mind throughout the day. This is what a person thinks about all the time. A person who spends their day being negative, complaining, being angry, and frustrated will draw that into their life. A person who thinks positively and expects the best to happen in their day will draw this into their life. Agreed?

So the question is - how does this really work? Why is having a success-oriented mind-set critical? Here are three main reasons:

1 - Having personal belief and confidence is a by-product of a success-oriented mind-set

If you lack belief in yourself this can lead to feelings of futility and powerlessness. Along with these beliefs and struggles you will actually get the opposite of what you say you want. A mind cannot live in a negative, pessimistic state and expect to be successful. What generally gets created is failure or at the least, frustration. Sometimes a person has a mind-set that sends out the message that says, "when you become successful, you will have more self-confidence; you will feel better about yourself." What really has to happen is you have to have the right mind-set for success to arrive.

Having a success-oriented mind means you are believing in yourself and your capabilities before success shows up. Believing as if it's true will make it your truth. Being willing to believe you are a success at nearly everything you put your mind to and are willing to go the distance and to do what it takes to be successful. Live in the mind of a confident, successful person and that is who you will become.

2 - Having a success-oriented mind enhances your determination

People who have a success-oriented mind do not see failure as an obstacle, they do not quit on their goals. They become more determined than ever to keep moving forward. As Edison said about the failures he experienced while creating the light bulb, "I did not fail 5,000 times, I found 5,000 ways that did not work." This is a definition of tenacity. Using the experience of failure to figure out what doesn't work moves you closer to what will work. Again, your mind-set.

3 - Having a success-oriented mind supports massive, focused action

There are a lot of people trying to figure out the perfect answer to creating a specific goal. They are circling and circling instead of taking action. Action is the only activity that will move you closer to the successful life you deserve. It is easy to become confused and over-whelmed with options. Answer this question - if you have a goal to get from one side of the United States to the other, how many ways come to mind? One, two, three, five, one hundred? There are so many ways to accomplish this goal - so, what you do is choose, take action, and conquer the goal. The key is action! If you miss your target, do something different.

Begin to listen to what is really going on in your mind. What is the constant conversation? If the conversation is supportive of your being successful, turn up the volume, if not, turn to another channel.

Line your mind-set up with your expected outcomes. You deserve to have everything you think and dream about.
