If you have little ones, more than likely they have seen Dora and Diego. You know the kids that go into the forest and rescue animals who are in danger?
Ask your kids, they will know! You don't have to have a forest in your back yard to find animals outside. Tell your kids that you're going to be explorers today. Get a piece of paper and go outside and sit quietly. Tell them to listen for any animals they hear. When they see or hear an animal, get up and go investigate. Write down any info you may have discovered.
After you are done exploring, you can go in the house and look up facts about that animal on the Internet. This is a great learning experience and it combines an outdoor activity with learning. If it's a hot day, you can look forward to getting back into the house to look up the facts on the computer. If you and your family decide to take a camping trip, the possibilities are endless with all the learning opportunities around you. If you are going to a lake, think about all the many creatures in the water.
Ask your child what they think might be in the water. Their answers might actually surprise you. You don't even have to go out into the water to be able to see the many aquatic creatures that thrive in the rivers and lakes. Turtles, fish and snakes are some of the most frequent animals you and your child will see. When you get back to your camp site you can talk about all the magnificent creatures that are out there.
