That cheap airline airfare the online travel agent search engine just spat at you - is it really that cheap?

There are millions of travel websites competing for your business and most of them if not all promise discounted airfares. This leaves us with a rather awkward question:

If all the sites you visit are offering low cheap airfares and discounted tickets, are there any sites offering full price tickets? If not, do full price really exist? If they do exist where are they? And if they don't exist the 40% discounted ticket is a sham because there are no online full price tickets to measure the discount.

The travel websites and airlines will say that full price does exist, in theory anyway, but hardly anyone pays it.

If the above scenario is correct we as consumers have to be wary of the sales pitch from these low cheap airfare merchants.

And another point to consider are the add-ons which are quite often hidden until checkout. For instance, a $600 low cheap airfare may not be all it seems. And you may not discover this until you have entered your credit card information and other personal details. As it is often the case, airport charges, handling and administration charges, taxes and quite possibly miscellaneous other charges may accrue taking your $600 low cheap ticket to nearer $700 - oh well - I guess it wasn't a bargain after all.

The moral is to be very aware, read the website properly, more especially when you are going through the booking process.
