Yuko Tange, a graduate of National Saitama University, Japan, is an outstanding haiku poet. She is also an artist and painter who has promoted exchanges between Japanese and foreign artists. Her most recent haiku poetry book is entitled, "Injured Roses." This is a wonderful book of haiku poems for individuals of any age to read and enjoy in a pleasant manner.

Injured Roses relates to all the seasons of the year in ways everyone should be able to understand. It's down to earth and very practical. The Preface, which is written by Ban'ya Natsuishi, president of the World Haiku Association sets the tone for this excellent book.

Natsuishi words are right on point regarding the following poem written by Yuko Tange:

Red roses

invite bewitchment

and a misunderstanding, too.

Obviously, many individuals should be able to think of instances where a red rose was used for the wrong purpose, right purpose, and in situations which are questionable. The jogging of one's imagination should reveal instances of such nature. However, as Natsuishi states, the rose of Yuko Tange should be allowed to bloom. Obviously, a rose is more precious while blooming with fragrance.

The following haiku poem addresses the season of spring and its flexible nature:

In the dark of spring

a baffling wind

wafts by.

Just imagine the wind during a cold night in the spring time. One may think winter is gone; however, the residual tentacles of the cold from the winter season linger for a while during spring. One is also able to feel the cold chill from a baffling wind passing by.

The essence of a haiku poem which makes an impression on the senses is always wonderful. The following haiku is emblematical of such a poem:

Sense of nostalgia

a full bosom

crust of bread.

This is just an awesome haiku poem, which impacts the senses regarding taste, smell and sight. One is not just able to taste the bread, but see, and smell it. Touch is still one of the senses in this picture not to be forgotten.

This is just an excellent book with wonderful poems for any reader to enjoy and find relaxation from while reading. It's packed with additional haiku poems that will entreat the soul to experience wonderful and refreshing thoughts. One must read it to fully understand her vision.
