Information on England Part 2

I recently discussed the facts and figures and the geography of Great Britain in my article 'Information on England Part 1'. I'm now going to discuss the history and parliament information. I hope you find the following article informative.

History of England

Places like the Stonehenge are great examples of the prehistoric culture in Britain. In the 1st century B.C Britain was bought into contact with the continental Europe by the Romans. In the 5th century AD Britain was invaded by Angles, Saxons and Jutes Scandinavia when the Romans withdrew. Although this invasion took effect in England the Celtic people of Wales and Scotland where not really affected. England was divided into seven kingdoms from the Anglo- Saxons and then the British people had to flee to Wales and Scotland. The country finally became united in the 10th century under the kings of Wessex. In 1066 Edward the Confessor and William Duke of Normandy invaded the island and the Saxon Kind, Harold II was defeated. England now came under the Norman French law and feudalism.

In 1509-1547 the church in England asserted its independence from the Roman Catholic Church in the reign of Henry VIII.

Government of the United Kingdom

The UK is a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. There are currently two houses with a queen and a parliament. There is currently 574 life peers in the House of Lords and 92 hereditary peers, 26 bishops and the House of Commons which has 651 popularly elected members. The power is in seat for 5 years unless it's rid sooner. In 1911 the House of Lords was stripped of most of its powers so they mainly consider legislations and change where needed.
