Information Sharing Technology Over Time

Information sharing technology has come a long way over the last one hundred-plus years. The earliest forms included the pony express, but the telegraph soon followed, speeding up the process of sending and receiving messages over long distances, and at a reduced cost to the customer. Telephones added another element of ease of use, because businesses and individuals could have an inexpensive telephone on site, making communications easier still. Moving up through the decades, we have the latest technology that has been digitized with the advent of the computer age, but basic setups like email and FTP still leave a lot to be desired.

With the ability to use the Internet and the World Wide Web, both individuals and companies can benefit from the speed, cost effectiveness and ease of use when they need to share files with clients and friends. Today we can utilize the transfer file process of adding an attachment to an ordinary email, and for many smaller documents this works very well.

However, for those who work in industries where large digital documents must be sent securely online, such as those who are architects, engineers and those who work in construction companies, file transfer programs such as FTP, file transfer protocol, can be used. There are some drawbacks that come with using FTP programs though. Many of these software programs are confusing to use for those without a background in computer software technology, and they also often require some training on their use before everyone in the business office will be up to speed in transmitting large files. Security is also typically lacking in FTP-type programs as well, leaving your important files open to computer hackers.

Instead, those with large documents such as blueprints and CAD design files need a simple file transfer program that is an alternative to FTP. There are certain programs available that are as easy to use as attaching a file to an email, so these are the types that you will want to search out for your use.

When it comes to file transfer, secure transmission of documents is crucial to your company's success. Client's privacy in business matters needs to be guarded, so having a secure system with layers of protection makes it harder for computer hackers to get in and mess around with your important business files.

There are alternatives to FTP; you simply need to find them online. When you do, you will be pleased with the results that your architectural, engineering and construction business will enjoy.
