The following are some tips on infertility diet that may help to boost your fertility.
Take unsaturated fats instead of saturated fats and avoid trans fats whenever possible. Our body needs some saturated fats but taking too much saturated fats does not help fertility and can increase your bad cholesterol. Foods rich in saturated fats include steak, sausage, bacon, lard, coconut oil, coconut milk, palm oil, whole milk, butter and cheese. Unsaturated fats such omega-3 and omega-6 improve the body's sensitivity to insulin and help to boost fertility. Omega-3 helps to prevent blood clotting in the arteries and calm inflammation. Sources of unsaturated fats are olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil, avocado, nuts and sesame seeds, salmon, sardines, tuna, walnuts, flaxseed, unhydrogenated soybean oil or canola oil. Trans fats does the opposite. They increase bad cholesterol that are harmful to the heart and arteries and increase inflammation in our body. Foods that contain trans fats are margarine, doughnuts, cookies and fried foods. They are not good for fertility.
Add more alkaline foods such as vegetables, non-citrus fruits, sprouts, wheat grass and barley grass to your diet. Acidic foods like meat, dairy products and most grains make your cervical mucus more acidic. Sperm live longer in alkaline environment.
Avoid foods with pesticides, chemicals and hormones used to treat animal products. These hormones contain synthetic estrogen-like substances, which may cause infertility. Many vegetables contain pesticides and chemicals. You may want to choose organic and hormone-free foods whenever possible.
Take more cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. Cruciferous vegetables contain a substance that regulates the usage of estradiol (one type of estrogen).
Replace sugared sodas and sugared fruit juices with water. Water has no calorie while sugared drinks increase your blood-sugar and insulin levels. Coffee and tea contain caffeine which may not be good for fertility. So take them in moderation. Avoid alcohol if you can, otherwise drink only on occasions. Heavy consumption of alcohol may negatively affect the fertility of both women and men.
Taking multivitamin and minerals that include folic acid, iron, vitamin A, C, F, B complex, zinc and selenium can improve the health of your reproductive system. Folic acid and iron are two very important ingredients you should include in your diet if you want to improve your chances of getting pregnant. Studies have proven that folic acid can dramatically reduce the chances of giving birth to a baby with spina bifida or other neural tube defect. Extra folic acid may also stimulate ovulation. One study had shown that women who took iron are less likely to have problem conceiving than women who didn't take. Best sources of iron that improve fertility are from fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and supplements. It seems that iron from meat does not have much effect on fertility.
Try to have a nutritional well-balanced diet. It is not only good for your health. It helps to boost your fertility too. You may be able to get pregnant by replacing your diet with a healthy infertility diet.
