Increase Your Happiness - 3 Steps to a Happier You

Expert Author Irsan Komarga

It is very common among us to find happiness. We all want to be happy. Some people spend their whole lives trying to pursue real happiness. And there are those who have given up on happiness as well. But what most people don't know is we all have happiness within us at varying degrees. Which means happiness is unique to each person. It is like a cup that can never be completely filled, but we can always add more to it. Here are a few simple ways that you can try to pursue that happiness.

Relax. It is a common advice but it does help a lot. Relaxing helps take away stress and tension from both your body and your mind. People often take a day off or even a weekend off to relax. This can be very effective at first but after a while, you realize it's effects are diminishing. Why? Because it becomes a routine. You start to look forward to relaxing during the weekend but at the same time, you expect to be stressed once you go back to work. So, to get the full benefit of relaxing, it's advisable that you relax whenever and wherever you feel like it. When you're on your desk working and you fell like you're going nowhere, take a moment to sit back and relax. Or if you're doing an errand and you know there's still lots of things that need to be done, take a moment to sit down and relax. The key is to take a moment to relax once you feel that stress is kicking it's way in.

Write a journal. the idea of keeping a journal might sound stupid since you're no longer a teenager but it can benefit you in a lot of ways and directly and indirectly can add to your happiness as well. Take time to write an entry in your journal regularly. It doesn't have to be everyday. As long as it's regular. The idea is to write down your thoughts and feelings that stick out in your mind. Make sure that you write the truth, no matter how funny, embarrassing or weird it may sound. Through writing a journal, you will learn more about yourself. And you will eventually learn to accept yourself for who you are, which is always a good thing.

Don't hold back your inner child. As we grow older, people expect us to act like adults. We mature because of the hard experiences we encounter in life. And during this transition to becoming adults, we let go of our inner child, forgetting it sometimes. Because of this we miss out on happiness and enjoyment. Allowing our inner child to be part of us help us become more open to change and appreciate a wider range of things. Don't neglect doing things just because people think is childish. Once in a while, watch you favorite TV show when you were a child. Or play your favorite video games when you were a child. This can bring immense happiness. Remember, we were happiest when we were kids. And doing those little things can bring back a lot of fun memories.

So those are just three simple ways to increase your level of happiness. Break the routine and relax. Keep a journal. And let your inner child come out once in a while. Just remember, don't go overboard. Keep everything in moderation.
