Include 'Green' As an Advantage in Your Property

Real estate property owners are increasingly being environment-conscious. In many places, real estate developers have always been criticised for clearing farmland and other open spaces to build towers and skyscrapers. Protests have often led to abandonment of projects and incompletion of work.

This has probably led to developers themselves being more environment-conscious. They use materials which cause less pollution and also reduce noise pollution. The fittings in the homes are energy-saving and most skyscrapers these days have solar facilities such as solar heaters and solar generators. Also, the builders themselves make provisions for rain water harvesting.

As a home owner, you can start with replacing the incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. CFL really saves energy to the tune of 70 per cent. If you are using CFL bulbs, remember that they should not be thrown away. Deposit it at places where they will be picked up for recycling. Check the net to know the options.

People even pay more for green homes. Statistics have shown people are increasingly interested in green homes. Even if initially such homes cost more, going forward, they help to save money and energy. Also, you would be doing your earth a great service.

Solar energy can be used efficiently in cookers and boilers. Sunlight is a free commodity and innovative products in the market help you to tap this energy well, especially in the kitchen.

You should understand that while buying a home, you can always search for an environment-friendly home. However, while selling a home, if you wish to sell it as being environment-friendly, then you have to spend some money from your pocket to make it so. The initial investments in most such measures are rather high as they are all relatively new. It will take some time to become easy on your pocket. But, it is still a profitable prospect considering savings in the future and the usefulness.

Real estate property developers also are turning more and more to using materials from inexhaustible sources. They are also using better insulation methods making their homes smarter and greener.

While building your home or even doing maintenance work, if you undertake some measures, it could help your home and the planet too. For example, do not use black asphalt shingles for your roof. This increases the temperature of your home and the earth's atmosphere. You could go for white metal roof or slate with shingles roof. Both these options are long-lasting and keep your home cool, keeping your electricity bills down.

Avoid vinyl siding and go for a protective cover that is insulated. This will again increase the energy efficiency of your home. Replace you windows if your home is more than 20 years old. New windows in the market allow a higher degree of cooling which did not exist two decades ago.

Using wood for flooring and panelling is the last thing you should do even if somebody advices you on the amazing appearance and uplift it gives your home. It is disservice to habitats and wildlife. Stick to tiles and at the most, have bamboo flooring if you want something different.
