Every business is at risk in a time of a bad economy right? Wrong... some still are doing much better than others, why? Because they have taken the risk. As a business owner you have to risk alto. With this comes you ability to say the word 'no' and that means to yourself, your customer or whoever.
For example - say no to a higher priced item if you can get it somewhere else or if there is no call for it. Sometimes you have to refuse the silent demands of others. Next risk leaving empty spaces empty. Here I mean, don't fill up your time with tasks so you are so tied up you have no time to think things through. Use this so called 'free time' to plot your next move.
Risk not defending your self or your business to anyone. Not everyone will see eye to eye with you and if you feel that you do not want to discuss things, simply don't. Risk looking foolish. This is the opposite, if you feel you must do whatever to tell whoever about your points, do it. Do not worry how others see you - speak your mind in a professional way. You should not pretend to understand things you don't and you should not feel foolish for asking questions either.
Risk bearing the burdens associated with your business. Now this can apply to you or your customer. Any business comes with it's share of burdens - assume the risk that goes with yours. This helps the customer feel assured that they should do business with you and it allows you to be the judge of the fears on whatever level you need to face them on. What I mean here is, the weight of any issue is only measured by the amount of credit or merit you give it. Do not all it to burden you - face it realistically but don't fear it so much that is causes you needless issues in your business or personal life.
Risk being rejected by your market - do everything you can to get those key benefits across to your target market and risk the rejection caused by others in your field.
Risk taking the lead in your field. Why wait for the others around you to establish the policy or procedure for your field and follow those? Why not set the standards in your business and set them so high others have to reach very high to compare.
