Immune System Disorders - How to Boost Your Immune System

An effective immune system is very vital for the functioning of our body and the entire organ system. Without effective immune system we will be prone to any number diseases, infections and even cancer. A dysfunctional immunity is definitely a cause of concern. In this modern era many factors contribute to immune system dysfunction.

Sugar and carbohydrates decrease white blood cell activity by as much as 50% - depending on whether it is a simple carbohydrate or a complex carbohydrate and its Glycemic index. Allergic reaction to food uses up immune defenses on improper food. The defenses that usually fight diseases are made to fight normally healthy food. This further allows immunity damaging toxins to enter the body.

Obesity decreases bacteria killing activity of white cells and the production of antibodies. Excess alcohol decreases white cell mobilization. Vitamins and minerals like Folic acid, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C and minerals like copper and zinc boost our immunity and any deficiency will severely affect it. Pesticides and insecticides depress T and B lympohocytes causing accelerated aging of the thymus gland.

Medicines and drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, cortico steroids etc. decrease antibody production compromising the immunity. Toxic Chemicals like silicone implants, organic solvents, and formaldehyde decrease natural killer cell activity which is very vital in fighting cancer cells. Excessive physical activity uses up immune defenses and increases free radical production. High stress levels damage the thymus gland resulting in decreased T cell productions and activation. Inadequate rest suppresses the killer cell activity which is vital in killing the cancer cells and infectious germs. Frequent exposure to infections overloads the immune system. If there is overgrowth of bowel Candida immune system can be significantly compromised. Excessive sea food/fish consumption stunts neutrophil which is a white blood cell leading to reduced immunity.

Air pollution due to sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, ozone, dry air in heated buildings etc. damages protective mucous membranes. Vaccinations of any type can cause around 2 weeks of decreased immunity. Severe trauma like accident, major surgery and inflammatory response can overload immune system. Chronic antibiotic usage can cause general immune impairment. Premenopausal hormone imbalances in women suppress response to invading pathogens.

It is important that you take into account above factors that can compromise your immunity and avoid them for a healthy life.
