How to Maximize the Miracles In Your Life
"He who has a why to live can bear with almost any how." F. Nietzsche
Your life is One Continuous Story, broken into many chapters, subchapters, plots, and mysteries. It's mostly fiction, but you have come to believe that it's The Truth about you. You may like what you have created. Fine. Keep it going, adding new chapters and characters and plot lines. Have fun with it. But whenever you don't like the direction it's taking, you can rewrite it--in part, or entirely. Here's how:
- Align yourself with a Better Outcome. Make the new story interesting, involved, inclusive. Get clear on your purpose. Authors will tell you that, without clarity, a story has no real direction. "There is only one success: to live your life in your own way." Christopher Morley
- Create a Different Truth. Write it down; make it real; keep it believable. "Cherish forever what makes you unique 'cuz you're a real yawn if it goes." Bette Milder
- Take a Bold Step. Become the Action Hero of your own story; don't just play a supporting role. "Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion; you must set yourself on fire." Reggie Leach
- Create a Powerful and Spiritual Ritual. Pray at the same time each day; read spiritual material; listen to spiritual music; light a candle; call someone. You don't necessarily need to be "religious" to engage in spiritual practice. You're not trying to change or appease an outside god; your goal is to tweak your inner experience, move it a bit, shake it up, scrape gunk off your spiritual eyes. "Miracles appear when the vision is clear." (Anon.)
You may think you remember your past vividly. In actuality, you have been rewriting most of it as you go along, much of it unconsciously. Begin today to rewrite your story consciously. Make it come out the way you want it to. Horace Mann said, "If an idiot were to tell you the same story for a year, you would end by believing it." You're not an idiot. Tell yourself a New Story. And watch the miracles increase a hundredfold.
To paraphrase a wise but anonymous scholar, during the course of your life, a small number of folks will like you, even love you. And a small number may well dislike you, perhaps a lot. The vast majority, however, won't care one way or another about you. So, be yourself, create the best story you can, and follow your own heart.
"History will be kind to me for I intend to write it." Winston Churchill
P.S. You are not trapped in or by your present story unless you believe you are. But understand this: there are those who are participating in your story and you in theirs. Some may not want you to change. You will have to weigh that option in the balance. Will changing your story change theirs? More than likely. Expect resistance, then choose.
