Identify Diabetes Early

Expert Author Uma Bilaney

Diabetes is a problem of high sugar level in the blood. It can be fatal if untreated and can damage several organs of the body. Identifying diabetes symptoms early can help in controlling this condition. There are various signs of diabetes that you must watch carefully to avoid aggravation. Typically, high sugar problem occurs when the body does not produce the right amount of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that breaks down food into glucose. This glucose is absorbed by the blood cells and they derive energy from it. Glucose is as a source of energy or fuel for the body. If the body is unable to break down food due to lack of insulin, glucose remains unabsorbed by blood cells. This excess build up of glucose in bloodstream is called diabetes. Here are some of the signs and symptoms that will enable you to identify this condition early.

Diabetes Symptoms

Fatigue: Since the body does not get its fuel or energy from the bloodstream, it uses energy from the fat reserve of the body. This causes a negative calorie effect and results in fatigue or tiredness.

Loss of weight: Patients with this condition often pass urine frequently. This is because the excess build up of glucose is passed out of the body through urine. It causes loss of water in the body and results in weight loss. Apart from that, when the fat reserve of body is utilized for generating energy, it causes weight loss. However, in some patients there may be weight gain due to increased appetite.

Vision: A diabetes patient may experience blurred vision. However, this occurs only if the condition is chronic and not treated well.

Diabetic foot: This is another sign of diabetes. The feet of a diabetic patient may hurt badly. The patient may have trouble while walking and conducting other routine activities.

Wound and infections: A high sugar problem often affects the wound healing ability of the body. High sugar affects the immune system since it restricts the growth of white blood cells. A reduced WBC count is responsible for poor healing. A patient may also experience skin infections and urinary tract infection.

These are some of the common symptoms and they should be treated early. This condition can get worse with time and early treatment is advisable. If it is on a borderline, it can be treated quickly and will not relapse if you exercise precaution. Doctors, for keeping a check on diabetes, suggest a balanced diet with moderate exercise.
