Icicle Styled Ornaments

Nothing's more beautiful then an icicle gleaming in the sunlight on a snowy day a scene that often reminds me of Christmas morning. I like to bring a piece of that beauty into my home by creating these lovely and unique icicle ornaments and then hang several on my Christmas tree to give it a more Winters look. Icicle ornaments are very quick, easy to make and a lot of fun. Just follow these simple steps to create your very own.

Start by taking a pipe cleaner, any color of your choice will do and then spiral it around a pencil to give it an icicle look. When you get your icicle the way you want it tie a string to the top of the pipe cleaner and the other end of the string to the center of a pencil. This will keep your ornament where you want it when you go to put it in the mixture. Bring one cup of water to a boil then add three tablespoons of borax then stir until most of the borax dissolves and the water becomes cloudy. Now take an empty jar that is big enough for your ornament to hang in and then pour in the mixture. Place the ornament into the jar using the pencil to hold in up so it's not touching the bottom or sides. Allow to sit for at least a day or just over night, it should be covered in a thick crystal. Next pull out allowing some time to dry and then cut the string. For a finished look tie some decorative ribbon to the top of your ornament to make a hanger and maybe even add a bow for the top front. To keep the icicle ornament staying nice and from losing any crystals spray a clear acrylic sealer.

Now with your family you can enjoy very your own lovely and unique icicle ornaments for years to come. Another option is you can also make other shapes out of the pipe cleaners or even add multiple pipe cleaners to create new and different looking Christmas ornaments. For example candy canes, Christmas trees, wreathes, stars or harts. Have fun and be creative with these ornaments and make them your own.

Materials needed for these ornaments:
20 mule team borax laundry booster
Pipe cleaners (any color)
Large jar or container
