II FREEDOM HERO - CHANDRASEKHAR AZAD
Another hero of freedom fight for India was Chandrasekhar Azad. Azad means 'free' in Urdu language, as Chandrasekhar took the pledge of not getting caught alive by the police. He took his education at Bhavra district, Jhabna in Madhya Pradesh and further at Sanskrit Pathshala at Varanasi. As an ardent devout of Hanuman, Chandrasekhar furtively disguised himself as a priest in Hanuman temple to escape from British. He is famous for the Chauri Chaura massacre in 1922. Under the fire of his rile, approximately 22 policemen were burnt in the police station. Alike Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad was too shattered by the tragedy that took place in Amritsar.
With Bhagat Singh, he is also responsible for the assassination of British officer Saunder. Chandrasekhar with few other revolutionaries took the charge of Kakori rail dacoity in 1925. The dacoity was the most courageous task that was formulated by such strong hearted people. It was targeted to cover up the financial drawbacks faced by the freedom fighters. He joined Bhagat Singh and other patriots to form the 'Hindustan Socialist Republican Association' which was purposed for Indian independence and future progress. The sun of 27th February' 1931, was shining for the last time in the life of Azad.
Betrayed by one of his fellows, Azad was captured and encircled by the British troops at the Alfred Park. He confide himself behind the ancient tree in the park and was terrifying the soldiers by his sharp shooting skills. When the last bullet left, sustaining his alias 'Azad', Chandrasekhar shot himself on his temple. He died but did not get himself behind bars by the British. Chandrasekhar was born on 23rd July' 1906 at Badarka, district Unnao, state Uttar Pradesh. He always lived free and redeemed his pledge by dying free.
