Retirment has become the freedom I needed to discover that success did know how to find me.
I spent most of my life working for the things we all imagine would be the good life in retirement. The vacation house, the house in the warm climate, the perfect golf swing, grandchildren that smile at you every day. I always saw retirement as a point in life when you could drop your guard and take stock of what you had accomplished. Because of the Global Recession my retirement came earlier than I had planned but none the less it was retirement. Many people in the world have had to face a similar situation and believe me, there are no alternatives or negotiations.
Once reality set in and my fate was obvious, I started to think and even tell my friends that this retirement gig wasn't all that bad. My sub conscious mind on the other hand was having a discussion also and that discussion was saying, you are way too young, too cute, to ambitious, too accomplished and too success oriented to sit back and just accept retirement. later I had to admit that my sub conscious mind knew me better than my conscious state did. I did have a desire to still accomplish things in my life.
The freedom of accepting my fate is what set me up to become extremely capable of taking on any situation I put my mind to. I started searching the internet for a job that would allow me to use my skills of my corporate career. I had spent 32 years as a sales manager and I was sure there was still a place for me in that field.. Boy was I surprised. I was not really being realistic that I was the only person looking for a job. My major break came one day as I did my daily search and a small ad popped up on the side of the page. We have all seen them and usually never even look at them. For some reason this small ad caught my attention and the title, "Want To Work From Home" pulled my hand over and made my index finger click the mouse. What an experience and one that has totally changed my life.
Not only was I now looking at something I knew nothing about I was completely drawn in and saying to myself, "Why Not"? That day has turned into one of the greatest experiences of my life and in just four months had discovered a way to replace the income from my 32 year corporate career. That was the least important result of that one time loss of control and click of the mouse.
In just eight months now, I have become totally immersed in a new field that allows me more freedom, more income, more recognition, more self respect, more time for things I decide I want to do. It is impossible for me to be fired or laid off or retired. I talk with total strangers from all over the world and share stories of their lives and the trials and tribulations that were similar to mine. Success, let me tell you, I have found a new meaning for success. To me, success is being able to know that you are highly respected by co-workers from a 32 year career that has dismissed you like someone flushing a toilet to reinventing yourself in a completely new environment and accomplish the same level of respect that you left within eight months.
Not only did success find me, it has taught me skills I never imagined learning. Baby Boomers don't know about Twitter, Facebook, Google PPC. We know about Woodstock, Beatles and work hard at the corporate office and stay out of trouble.
Do you want to find success? stop looking ! It will find you. When it does, don't hide, don't run, don't say not me, embrace it and use it to reinvent yourself and become the person that you are. I can tell you from my own prospective, this success has twice the rewards of any success you have ever experienced. Your new success will show you all of the great skills you never used in your prior success. If you need money to validate success, the bank is open. If you work with your new success, the one that found you, with the same energy you worked with your old success the money will happen as an accident.
You are just one attitude away from success finding you. It will feel like a gentle tug on you. Trust it, embrace it, enjoy it, and spread it. Be willing to learn new skills. Drop the I don't know anything about that conversation you have with yourself. People that have worked hard their entire life do it because that is their core value. It does not change in a new endeavor. Good Luck!
