You've probably heard of the Circadian Rhythm that makes us ready to climb out of bed in the morning and makes us sleepy at night?
You've probably heard, too, of the two hemispheres of the brain, the left and the right.
Basically, the Ultradian Rhythym controls, or moderates if you will, these two parts. The actual function of these two parts, and the way they correspond, one with the other, is as yet unknown. What is known, though, is that the left hemisphere is responsible for logical, communicative thought, while the right hemisphere starts working more when we're in a relaxed state, hypnotized or dreaming.
Now, everyone's different of course, but it's thought that a person can work for up to ten hours at peak efficiency, after which their productivity drops off considerably.
'Oh, there aren't enough hours in the day.' We've all said it and sometimes we make the mistake of working 14 or 15 hours a day, day after day, either to play 'catch-up,' or because the firm for which we work insists upon it or frankly so that we can boast that we never work less than a hundred hours a week.
When you work these incredibly long hours, your Circadian and Ultradian rhythms are put in a state of chaos, quite apart from your other bodily functions, most of all, sleep. It's true that when you're in college and from there into your early to mid-twenties, you're able to get away with it - for a while. But you won't keep up your productivity or your efficiency.
The idea is to work smart, not long! Long, slogging hours invite stress into your life and physical side issues will follow.
What the heck's this to do with hypnosis, you may well ask? It's a valid question, and the answer is that by working these sorts of hours, apart from the damage you'll eventually do to yourself, is that you're not leaving any self-time. There is no wind down, after which you could spend half an hour meditating and/or engaging in self-hypnosis, re-charging and improving yourself.
By cutting your workload in half and then having self-time, you'll be amazed at your increased performance. You'll realize then how ridiculous these hundred hour weeks really were.
I ask you. After working for 15 hours, you have 9 hours left. By the time you've fought your way home, all you're ready for is to 'nuke' something in the microwave and hit the sack. If you're very lucky. After all, you're bound to have household chores of some kind to do, so if you're very lucky you may achieve 5 hours in bed.
By the time your mind's finished churning over the day's concerns, if you manage 3 hours sleep, you're doing well. So my tirade against working long hours is purely to try to persuade you, if you do work these hours, to stop and think.
