Hybrid Clubs - Go Get Them Now

Hybrids have been all the rage for a few years now, but not every golfer has tried them. I used to count myself in that group, but not any more. I'm fully on board with the hybrid golf club crowd and here is how it happened.

My foursome went out for our Saturday morning game and I was playing well. On a par five on the back nine, I was looking at a 210 yard approach shot to the green. I don't carry fairway woods because I can't keep them straight. I don't hit long irons well either for the same reason. So I had resigned myself to hitting sand wedge/sand wedge to the green. One of my partners noticed and wanted me to try his 3 hybrid.

What a strange little club! Short shaft, like an iron but with a head that looks like a smaller version of a fairway wood. I asked how to swing it, and was told to treat it like an iron. So that's what I did. Except for the part that the shot didn't leak off to the right during flight and landed on the green, it felt just like hitting a three iron.

OK, I thought, that's how every first swing with any club works. This was not my first time slowing down my swing and just trying to make contact only to learn that the ball travels well when I do that. So, I asked to borrow the club and took it to the range after the round. Every ball went straight. I now have a 4 hybrid and 3 hybrid in my bag.

Casual golfers should add a hybrid to their bag. At least stop by a local pro shop and hit one. You'll be glad you did.
