If there was a way to make you look and feel younger without the need for cosmetic surgery, would you take it? As much as many of us are quite noble in saying that we want to grow old gracefully, there are many that would, if they could, do whatever they could to preserve youth and vitality.
Hyaluronic Acid also known as Hyaluronan is a complex carbohydrate found in the connective tissues throughout the body. Its main function is to cushion and lubricate while it coats the cells in cartilage that surrounds bony surfaces in joints.
As well as the functions explained previously it is also a major component found in the skin and can be highly efficient when activated for skin damage repair. Following extensive tests, it has been proved that if there is a Hyaluronic Acid deficiency in the body then premature aging is likely to occur as the skin does not protect against the suns UVB rays as effectively.
Hyaluronic Acid injections have been used for the last seven years to treat wrinkles and some people think it is the key to life longevity. Although testing is inconclusive as to whether it's the next major player in anti-aging treatments, many are taking the supplement regardless.
There are two possible ways to take Hyaluronic Acid, by oral administration or by injections, with injections proving to be more effective than the oral supplements. The body cannot absorb Hyaluronic Acid because of large molecular weights, so now many manufacturers are claiming that their supplements have low molecular weights, making it more popular to take it orally.
There are no known side effects when taking Hyaluronic Acid supplements for anti-aging purposes orally and can be taken either as pills, creams, serums or liquids. If injected in the face, the treatment can be painful and there are some reported side effects which are not seen in all patients but some. These include swelling and redness but will be less and less over a short time period, much the same as anti-aging injections such as Botox.
There hasn't been as much media attention on Hyaluronic Acid as much as there has been on Botox, which is why some consider it the undiscovered wonder treatment although it has been featured on a television news programme in the United States. ABC news featured a village in Japan called 'The village of long-life'. The programme featured a village called Yuzuri Hara, where the percentage of people over the age of 85 was ten times greater than America. Scientists believe the reason for this is largely down to the diet, which mainly consisted of starches and root vegetables. These starches increase the body's ability to produce Hyaluronic Acids, which in-turn slows down the ageing process.
As well as living longer the villagers are much more healthy, so with this in minds it would appear that Hyaluronic Acid could be the next major anti-aging treatment and we will no doubt see many celebrities championing the product sooner rather than later.
But why wait until the media frenzy, you can buy Hyaluronic Acid from most health shops or major pharmacy's, but always read the label and check with a doctor if you are unsure about taking it.
