When you have decided that you want a reminder of your life and the times you enjoyed with your family, you can start by writing your memoir. Memoirs are a history of your life that tells a story from your own perspective. Everything you want in your memoir should begin with a time period during your life that you want to remember. To start this document about your life you will need to jot down time periods that remind you of a particular memory you want to remember.

Some people who are writing their memoirs start with a special period such as high school, a favorite relative, an old lover or even an award they have won. Great memoirs are made more interesting by the special moments that they inspire. Older people may remember wars, where they did something they considered rewarding and interesting. Many people may write their memoirs about old girlfriends and boyfriends who made an impact on their lives. When you are writing your memoir, you will want to focus on a moment in time that makes a strong impact on which you are as a person today.

Another thing to remember when you write your memoirs is to take the time to give an overview of the world around you at the time. Many historians like to read the backgrounds of a person who wrote down their memoirs, to get an idea of what the world was like in the past. If your memoirs contain names and dates of important occurrences it is more likely to be of interest to someone who researches past occurrences. Be accurate in your description of people and places around you. If the president was mentioned in your story, add a little extra information about him that can be researched. This gives your story even more credibility.

Another important thing your memoirs needs is a lot of description and a moral at the end. Describe people, places, and situations in detail sp that you can take the reader back to a time and a place you are speaking of. Also tell a moral to your story, or give a reason why all of this was important to you and how you learned from the situation. When writing your memoir is sure to connect with the reader and you will hold their attention when they read your work.
