Have you ever been searching for something and you come across a website that looks great and offers up a ton of information, but then you leave and forgot to bookmark the site? Why didn't the owner or publisher of that website attempt to capture you? Why didn't he or she even make the slightest attempt to connect?
Many a website I come across that the publisher or marketer is missing the boat and allowing subscribers to take information and then leave. They give away lots of information but don't capture the searcher. They either make it too difficult for the searcher to find the op-tin box, in some don't even have a visual for it or just have the opt-in box in a less desirable area. This is like walking into a store and the sales person asking you if you'd like some help and you say no, we're just looking right now. You have interest, but they don't capture you and so you go on your way, maybe buying and maybe not.
In this article I am going to share how to put the squeeze on your prospects by capturing them on the first page of your website or landing page.
When you desire to have the searcher to take action, there is no better way than by utilizing what's called a lead capture or squeeze page. This is the best way to capture the searcher and bring him or her into your world. The squeeze page has its origins in the direct mail and direct response world of years past. In the old direct mail days, the advertiser would have some kind of form on the page for the reader to fill out and send in to the advertiser. In return they would receive something of value and in many cases a transaction was completed.
There are many different ways that you can capture your prospects when they arrive at your website, landing or squeeze pages. With a lead capture or squeeze page you are able to capture searchers and then communicate and cultivate a relationship with them. The objective is to build a subscriber list. Not give away tons of free information only to have the searcher turn around and leave only to visit another site.
Here are four different types of squeeze pages that you can use to capture leads for your small business:
1. A Light Squeeze is what I refer to as just an opt-in box that is placed on the front page of your generic website or blog. It's designed to capture the searcher and the headline in the box needs to be written as a call to action.
2. A Gentle Squeeze is what I refer to as a longer landing page that is formatted more along the lines of a sales letter, but has an opt-in box in one or two places. The landing page could be more informational, have lots of copy, testimonials, video and much more. The letter or long copy is designed to warm up the prospect and in some cases might have an offer of some kind on the last 2 to 3 pages.
3. The Soft Squeeze is a little shorter page - with copy written more concisely and to the point - could have a sub head line, maybe has video, 7 to 10 bullets points and an opt in box or sales offer at the end.
4. The Hard Squeeze- is a page or less with a headline, 5 to 7 bullet points and a call to action. These work great when located above the fold and have a solid call to action.
No matter which lead capture/squeeze page you decide to use. Always test, test, test and work towards optimizing all of your marketing to maximize results and return on investment.
