How to Use Cold Frost, Resistance, Absorb and Cold Damage to Freeze Your Enemies to Death

Expert Author Dan Massicotte

Raven Frost is a unique Ring. Since Dwarf Star, another unique Ring, deals with Fire Resistance, and a carrion wind deals with poison, it is no surprise that Raven Frost deals with Cold Resistance.

The Stats:

Level Requirement: 45

+150-250 to Attack Rating (varies)

Adds 15-45 Cold Damage - 4 Second Duration

Cannot be Frozen

+15-20 to Dexterity (varies)

+40 to Mana

Cold Absorb 20%

+150-250 to Attack Rating (varies)

Melee characters who have trouble with being able to hit monsters around their level value the huge boost to Attack Rating provided by Raven Frost. Of course, if they have huge problems with their Attack Ratings, they should consider a double Angelic Halo Ring set-up instead.

Adds 15-45 Cold Damage - 4 Second Duration

Raven Frost adds decent cold damage to your attacks. With regards to Cold damage, the slowing effect tends to be more valuable to players than the actual damage done.

Cannot be Frozen

A player with wearing an item with the Cannot Be Frozen mod will not be affected by the slowing effects caused by Cold damage.

+15-20 to Dexterity (varies)

This is a nice boost to Dexterity. It can help players in two ways: (1) they will now have more Dexterity to meet the Dexterity requirements of some items they might have kept away in their stash (2) If they make use of Shield, it will improve their % Chance to Block attacks.

+40 to Mana

Casters or Melee characters who depend on Mana-sapping Skills will find the nice bonus to Mana helpful.

Cold Absorb 20%

This mod, along with the Cold damage and Cannot Be Frozen mod, are the stars that fit Raven Frost's Cold theme.

There is a healthy amount of Cold wielding monsters in Diablo 2, especially in Hell Difficulty, and if you don't have Cold Resistance at a respectable level, don't be surprised if your character gets iced.

Having very high Cold Resistance with some Cold Absorption is a great combo for staying alive in Hell Difficulty: not only do you reduce the damage you've received from a Cold attack, but you gain some Life as well. That would be as close to being Cold Immune as your character can get in the game.

Summary:

Raven Frost offers several good mods, but is mostly used for the 20% Cold Absorb, which, when coupled with maximum Cold Resistance, will offer significant protection against Cold-wielding enemies. If you're fortunate enough to own one or even two Raven Frosts, you can keep them in your backpack for when you come across Cold-wielding enemies.
