If you are an origami wizard you might also find instructions for making origami dragons and make some for the party. These are cheap, requiring only your labor, and kids and adults alike find them irresistibly fascinating. Also, these make for unforgettable party favors when all is said and done. Another crafty idea you can do on your own is viking hats. You can make good viking helmets with large, disposable bowls, white poster board for the horns, tinfoil, clear packing tape, and silver duct tape.
The bowl will serve as the foundation of your helmet, so get the deepest ones you can, and to start you simply lay it upside down on a flat surface. Next, take a large piece of tinfoil and shape it into the appropriate shape. To hold it in place wind your duct tape around the rim of the bowl, folding half up over the tinfoil and half under the rim. Be sure that all tape is secured down so that nobody gets their hair pulled by tape. Next cut circles out of the poster board with a radius the length you want your viking horns to be. Next, cut all or your circles in half and twist them into a cone shape. Secure with clear shape and then attach to helmet, again using clear tape. You could also bend the horns slightly to give them a more authentic appearance. For a girl viking you could braid yellow yarn and attach the two braids on the inside of each side of the viking helmet.
If the audience you're entertaining is relatively young, you'll need to make their helmets for them, and perhaps just let them decorate them. For an older crowd you could have the helmet project as one of the first activities, each making their own to wear throughout the rest of the event.
