How to Think Your Way to Small Business Success

If you own a small business or you are just trying to get a small business off the ground, then this article will help you get there. In this go-go world, where everything is about productivity, multi-tasking and generally doing everything at the speed of light, sometimes you just need to stop and think. Read on to find out how you can solve some of your biggest business problems with the power of your mind.

Many business owners don't get a chance to stop and think about their biggest business issues. Instead, they jump from fire to fire, emergency to emergency and spend entirely too much time being reactive instead of proactive. You need to have time to build your business, think about the plan for the future and how your business will expand. You can't accomplish any of this if you are worried about putting out fires all the time.

Try setting aside two hours a week just dedicated to thinking. This may be something that you want to keep to yourself for awhile until you get the hand of it. If you tell your friends and family to leave you alone for thinking time, they may not receive it with open arms.

Pick a quiet place, free from distractions. You don't have to be doing NOTHING, for example, mindless work like filing papers or mowing a lawn works well. However, you need to be away from your business and those close to you during that time. This time is just for you, your mind, and the sake of your business. Don't force the ideas to come, just let them enter your mind. Make sure you have a pad of paper with you to take notes. If you have a big business issue, you don't need to try and solve it. Your subconscious is working on it all the time.

You mind will gradually come up with little tidbits and clues of information that you can use to solve your business problem. As the clues come through, write them down and eventually the puzzle will get solved. Do not be too hard on yourself if you don't solve world hunger in the first few hours after you begin this thought time. This should be a PERMANENT part of your business life. There are many successful people that make brainstorming a crucial part of their life. Try it for yourself. Begin with just 30 minutes and gradually increase your thinking time to a few hours. I guarantee you will like what you come up with.
