Over the past 15 months I have been running my own business. This article will help you understand my company and all the problems I've had. This will help you understand the highs and lows of being self-employed. The first thing I can tell you about being your own boss is its hard and if you don't put the work in you will defiantly fail.
My advice to anyone who is thinking of setting up is to all plan your attack and stick to what you know. Am only 25 so very young and this can help you because I have the determination and drive to always be on top. Am very hard working and I always put 100% into what I do. Currently I have 8 full time staff and have many more working on a ad-hoc basic. To success in business you need a plan. My advice is to write a very detailed business plan before you do anything.
Always be honest with your self and realistic, remember this is your new life and you will only be fooling your self. Once you have written a business plan get someone to look over it or better still, get someone in business to have a glance at it. When you are completely happy with the plan make a new business plan just regarding marketing. This has helped my company over the past year and without a marketing plan I would be where I am at the moment. Make sure you do loads of research and always shop around. Next on the list is funding or like I did begged borrow and steeled from friends and family.
Remember money is how people get into business. My advice is to either save some money before you leave your current job or ask family members to help you out. I did it the hard way; I left my current job with not saving or help for friends or family. This was very hard and I would advice anyone to do this. Money can also be found with local grants or the princess truest or even local university. This is always better to do when you are writing your business plan as the funding can take up to 6-12 months to receive. Remember there is always funding about as long as you keep doing research. My business got a 2000 marketing grant from a local university that wanted to help new business. Once you have the business plan, marketing plan and you know were the funding is then it's the fun stuff.
The next thing on the list would be planning when and were you are going to run this new business. I started in my dinning room and this help me so much as I had no commitment on rent or had to pay anyone. If you can take anything from this article is to keep your out going as low as possible. Remember guys and girls we have just been in a recession and everything is for sale. So rent, stationary and all equipment can be knocked down in price. So once you have done all the rest the only thing to do is go to your boss and had in you notice.
Good Luck
