How to Stop Slicing Your Driver - 3 Easy Tips to Straighten Your Driver Shots Immediately

Expert Author Greg Hanson

For us golfers, there's no more frustrating problem than trying to figure out how to stop slicing your driver off the tee. We all want desperately to hit a rip down the middle, especially when our fellow players are down the middle of the fairway already!

There's nothing more frustrating than aiming left and finding that the ball goes even further right than before!

Let's get our drives back in play and down the middle with 3 simple tips to straighten the slice.

Straighten the Slice Tip #1) Aim Your Shoulders to the Right-

This is one of the most important tips to straighten the slice with the driver. The reason is a slice is caused by a swing path that is "outside to in", or a swing path that swings too much to the left. Our swing path follows the direction that our shoulders are pointing at address to the ball. So if we point our shoulders more towards the target, or maybe even to the right of the target, our swing path will follow. Now we have a more inside to out swing path that we want.

Straighten the Slice Tip #2) "Twist Your Grip" (Grip the Club More Neutral)-

There is a "neutral" position that all of our hands will be at during the moment of impact, whether we like it or not. It's just a fact. Therefore, if our grip is twisted to the left too much, then when we come through at impact our grip will be twisting to the right (neutral position) without us knowing it!

Grip the club properly at address and you don't have to worry about this. Have the "V" between your left thumb and forefinger pointing toward the left-center of your chest. Have the "V" between your right forefinger and thumb pointing toward your right shoulder. You will twist the club less at impact now.

Straighten the Slice Tip #3) Aim Your Feet WAY Right (Practice Drill)-

This tip is similar to tip #1, but this is an actual practice drill you can do to get the feeling of swinging more from the inside.

Set up to the ball and point your feet waaaaaay right. That means your left foot is a little bit closer to the ball and your right foot is a foot or two back from the left foot! Strange, huh? Yes, but this is going to force you to swing from the inside. My guess is you'll be astonished how easy it is to draw the ball now!

Try those 3 tips and you will straighten out the slice with your driver the next time you tee it up. Learning how to stop slicing your driver can be just as easy as following a single tip.
