Bad breath is shunned and hated by most people today. After all, who would want to have a mouth and a breath that smelled like garbage? Granted, that phrase is a hyperbole, the truth and fact still remains that no one really wants to have bad breath, and most would die just to know how to stop bad breath and prevent it from coming back.

In order to help with that common and rampant dilemma, here is a complication of proven and effective tips on how to stop bad breath.

• Drink water. It's as simple as that. Drink lots and lots of water. Water is the universal solvent, and is known to be one of the most simple and effective ways of treating and prevent a number of diseases and complications, bad breath or halitosis included. If you drink lots of water (Note: Water, not other kinds of fluid such as soft drinks, liquor, alcohol, and etc), you prevent your mouth from drying out, which, also prevents bacteria that is responsible for bad breath.

• The importance of brushing and flossing your teeth can never be stressed and reiterated too much. These two things comes hand-in-hand in preventing the development of odor problems or bad breath. It also would help if you used a toothbrush that had a tongue scraper, so that you can rid your tongue of the bacteria that causes bad breath. Remember, more than half of the bacteria responsible for halitosis or bad breath is located in your tongue, not in your teeth.

• When using a mouthwash, remember to take note of its alcohol content. Most of the time, you'll find a list of its contents and their percentages at the back of the product, and if it is composed largely of alcohol, then avoid it. Alcohol leads to a dry mouth and as has been said before, dry mouth is a perfect condition for bacteria to live and thrive in.

• One of the red flags when it comes to halitosis is that if you have developed tonsil stones or tonsillitis. Granted, it is a common occurrence, but frequent and reoccurring tonsillitis is a warning that you either have poor dental habits or the food you eat is not clean.

• Use breath fresheners. However, just make sure that the gums or the breath fresheners you use contain little or no sugar at all. Bacteria thrive in sweets, and most especially, in sugar, and even if a sweet freshener may make your breath smell nice, it would only be temporary and that your breath will still smell awful in the long run.

• Lastly, it is important to visit the dentist at least twice or thrice a year. Have your teeth and mouth checked for any kind of oral and gum problems. Also, ask for any products that may help in preventing the occurrence of bad breath.
