Scammers are everywhere, including in the eBay dropshipping business. Fortunately, those type of scammers are easiest to spot. Realistically, scammers think most people have no intelligence at all so they don't try to hide much.
Keep in mind that you should never have to pay upfront costs to see a listing of a product or even the names of dropship companies so beware of that! You should never have to pay to see a catalog or a listing. The bottom line is to not to put money up front at all. If they don't agree to this, you don't need to deal with this company.
One sign of a scammer is a sales letter that guarantees unusually high or fast rates of return on a purchase. If they are telling you that you can get rich quick, you need to listen and run! The legitimate businesses will be more interested in your success long-term than promises quick fixes and schemes to get you rich overnight. If your gut says that this is too good to be true, it most probably is, so listen to that inner voice of wisdom and avoid the scam.
Some very common items that are sold as scams include, but are certainly not limited to: rare coins, brand-name clothing items or brand-name shoes, precious metals; jewelry, computers, or mobile phones.
If you know what to look for, most scams are not all that hard to detect.
Scams - Foreign and Domestic
You can find some terrific deals at home and abroad, with Asia being one of those countries, but most experienced and successful dropshippers for eBay advise not to use foreign dropshippers. That choice is entirely up to you.
One way to compromise is to look for special pricing from foreign partners, but keep the bulk of your ordering from domestic wholesales here in the States. This will ensure that you can take advantage of some outstanding foreign deals on products that you would not normally get there, but have less headaches if there are problems. This is also a great way to keep up with your competition all over the world.
