There are quite a few ways that anyone can speed up a computer and make it run faster. You could constantly upgrade your computers hardware or even purchase a new computer every year or so. That way you'll never really have to experience a computer slow down. But in reality, how many of us out there have the money to do these sorts of things?

On most windows operating systems there are several different built in utilities that can help your system keep in shape and run properly. There are a few things you can do yourself in order to get your system running smoother.

First, running a disk cleanup will help to get rid of things like old temporary files and make sure that your recycle bin is empty. Many times these are things your not even aware of, but they are there taking up precious space on your computer.

Second. Remove any programs and applications you do not use. This will free up memory and disk space.

Next, run your systems defragment utility. This will help to organize all of the files on your computer so that they not only take up less room, but all of the files for a particular program will all be together in the same place.

If at this point your computer is still running slow you have two options. You can either run a registry scan and repair the registry, or you can do a system restore and roll back windows to an earlier point where there were no errors.

Running a system restore.

To run a system restore go to the windows start menu and then accessories then system tools. From there select system restore. Select restore my computer to an earlier time and then pick a time or date when you know there were not any problems with your PC. Once you have done this your computer will restart.
