How to Set Up an Ab Workout Routine For Long Term Results

"Routine" has such an ugly sound to it, doesn't it? And add in a word like "workout" and it sometimes just sounds... well, blah. Maybe "ab workout program" has a better ring to it. After all, there isn't any implication of boredom in the word "program", right?

This is an important consideration when putting together your Roadmap To Abs. Boredom is a sure-fire killer of sexy abs. Along with cake, it's probably the worst thing out there for a solid six-pack.

So, you're going to need to acquaint yourself with a variety of exercises so that you don't actually just set up ONE ab workout routine. No, no! You want to be able to juggle around several of these programs, and switch back and forth between them!

How often? Well, in theory, about every six to ten weeks. In reality, that may not be practical. I mean, I know you want awesome abs and all, but I doubt you want to make a career of it, right? So let's be real and recognize that you aren't going to want to spend every spare moment planning out your next great series of ab-blasting exercises.

A better rule of thumb is, when you start to get bored, change it up. For me, it's usually more like three or four months of any particular routine (abs or otherwise) before I start getting bored and numb with the same old-same old.

It isn't just the exercises themselves that you can change to keep yourself interested. You can change HOW you exercise. Have you been doing your abs at home in front of the TV? Go into the gym and try doing them there! Or go into a Pilates class and struggle away for a while at that (who knows, you may meet some nice people while you're at it!).

I strongly suggest you keep an exercise journal to help you keep track of all this stuff. Like I said, you don't want to make a career of this. You've probably got enough crap to keep you busy in life; so make this easier on yourself and write it down so you don't have to remember it all.

Getting back to the topic of how to change up your program from time to time, experiment with the tempo of your workout. How fast can you get through all of your reps and exercises? Then, how slowly can you go through those movements in a controlled fashion? I'm here to tell you, going slow can be a heck of a lot more difficult than speeding through a particular motion.

By constantly shifting the content and tempo of your ab workout program, you can avoid that ab-killing stagnation that effects so many people. I mean, do you really want to do the same old, same old, each and every time you go into the gym (or simply exercise at home)? Of course not.

So don't have AN ab workout routine. Have SEVERAL ab workout routines, and switch back and forth between them, and not only will you get better results, but you also will avoid getting bored!
