In order to make some extra cash every month, many people have decided to dedicate a little part of their time to photo-shooting and then selling their photos online. Unfortunately, there's very little information for people who have no clue about how to get started in this industry.

An important thing you should know is that there are two major ways in which you can sell your photos:

1. Take the photos first and then find your buyers.

This method is used by the majority of photo-sellers out there. What they actually do is that they register with specialized websites where people upload the photos they want to sell and buy the photos they like. Joining such websites (as a buyer, not a seller) may require a registration fee, but the profit you can make is worth it.

Speaking of money, the price for which a photo sells on such websites can be anywhere between $1 and $10, depending on its size and quality. From my own experience, I can say that the average amount of money I get for a photo is $2.5. It may not seem that much, but if you could take 100 pictures a week, it certainly sums up.

2. Get people to hire you for taking photos.

Getting to this second step is impossible unless you take the first one. What happens is that every single person who sees your creations on the fore-mentioned specialized websites is a potential "employer", so to speak.

After spending some time in this business I started to receive promising offers from all sorts of people: realtors, website owners or even magazines. These buyers are willing to pay you, rather than a professional photographer, for taking a set of pictures, and getting in touch with 2 or 3 buyers like these every month can easily double your income (considering that you still sell your photos on websites).

I've started selling photos online about a couple of years ago, having just a digital camera and no experience whatsoever and I'm now living a comfortable lifestyle doing only this. This means that, no matter how experienced you are, you could at least add a few hundred dollars to your monthly income, "working" just an hour a week.
