How to Save Your Old Family Photos

If you have old family photos, you want to be able to preserve these as long as possible especially if you only have one copy of them. Find out some tips that will help you preserve these photos for much longer so that you can keep them nice.

First of all, if you do have pictures and the negatives, you need to make sure that you keep these away from each other. If together, you are increasing the odds that you will lose both. If in two separate locations, the odds of losing both are very rare.

Get multiple copies of your photos if you do still have the negatives to them. This will allow you to not only have fresh prints, but to be able to have backups of the other versions of the photographs.

For very old photographs, consider wearing gloves while touching them. The reason is because you do have oil on your hands that will get onto the paper. When this happens especially on older prints, you will notice a yellowing that will happen over time because of the oil on your skin.

Keep your photos in albums. This will keep them nicer, more organized, and will help them to last much longer as they are protected. Just make sure the albums don't have too much acid in the pages else the photos can be compromised.

Scan all your photos and get them digital. This will allow you to make unlimited copies and keep them forever assuming you make your digital backups.

Use a photo organization program with your digital photographs. This will help you organize them by the name, type, date, and any other tag that you put on the picture. When you do this, it's much easier to make albums of certain events or just certain people. This process can take some time, but it's worth it.
