How to Retrieve Deleted Files From Your SD Card

SD cards can be used for any kind of day-to-day file storage that may include anything from word documents and PDFs that take up less than 100KB to movie files that can take up several gigabytes. What's so nifty about SD cards is that they are used by so many different kinds of devices (media players, phones, cameras, portable game consoles, etc.) so a single SD card can be used to store the files that one person used on several different gadgets. This cool feature of SD cards has become more and more pronounced because of the much greater storage capacities of the newer models (64GB, to be exact!).

With Great Storage Comes Great Responsibility... and Danger!

With cards being used as all-around storage devices that are being entrusted with larger and larger amounts of files, data loss becomes an increasingly foreboding scenario to card users. For instance, imagine having a 32GB SD card full of your favorite music, movies, photos, games, even those important documents that you've been working on for school or work. How long do you think it has taken you to produce, download, edit and organize all those files? Days? Weeks? Months?... Years? Consider also that a good portion of those files probably didn't come free, meaning losing those files would be losing a financial investment. And then imagine that one day, your busy managing your files on your computer/laptop/cellphone/console and you absent-mindedly press something you shouldn't have. Poof! Like a nightmare, you realize that you've deleted a very important file, or worse, that you've cleared out your whole card!

Now you need to know how to retrieve deleted files from your card, and fast! What are Your Options?

Well, if you're an electronics expert, or have very kind and generous electronics-wizard friends, then recovering your lost files can be an inexpensive and personal operation. But chances are, you don't have and don't know anyone who has the expertise to do this kind of thing (otherwise, you wouldn't be reading this article, right?).

The second option is to look for professional data recovery services who can get your files back for you. The upside is that your card will probably be in very reliable hands. The downside (and this closes the door for many people) is that those hands are also very costly to hire!

So the only option that normal people like you and me are really left with is to try and find a good software recovery program that will walk us through the process of how to retrieve deleted files from SD cards (but really, all you have to do is direct the software, and then it will do the rest for you!).

You should follow these steps to retrieve data from SD Card:

1. First of all, download and install a reliable data recovery software.

2. Scan the card with this software and it will do a deep scan of the card and show you the files you've deleted before.

3. Once done, the software will show you a list of files you can recover. Please select those files and start the recovery process.

The next question is: should you use freeware, or purchase a program? Although freeware is, well, free, programs that are for sale have supposedly been developed with greater professional investment of time, resources and testing than the free variety. So just think about how much you want to get your files back intact, and then start surfing the net for the right data recovery program for you.

Deleting files or formatting your SD card, only to realize later on that you need to recover your files can be a tragic scenario. But by using good Data Recovery Software, heart-stopping moments like this don't always have to be heartbreaking. Recovering SD Card data is a matter of few clicks with a data recovery software.
