Smitfraud is known as a desktop highjacker. Once installed on your computer it will change your desktop background and you will not be able to change it back. Besides changing your desktop the program does install other spyware onto your system as well. Most of the times it will be a fake anti-spyware or anti Virus program.

The fake spyware programs run a quick scan when you first boot your system and a few seconds later you will be told you have a virus or spyware on your system. Spysherif and Sysprotect are good examples of this. The program warns you that your identity is being stolen and you need to buy their product. Do not fall prey to this scheme. The software they are selling you is bogus and they are the ones who infected you in the first place.

There are a few free tools out there dedicated just to for Smitfraud removal. The down side is they will remove Smitfraud but none of the other spyware on your system. To fully remove the spyware you need a good anti-spyware client. The thing is if you were properly protected in the first place you would not of been infected and most likely not reading this article.

How to Remove Smitfraud?

The free tool is called Smitfraudfix and it works about 50% of the time. You will just get re-infected again if you do not use good anti-spyware software to help remove the other threats as well. We recommend only one product to not only remove all Spyware from your system but give proper protection. The thing about most anti-spyware programs is many will protect your computer from getting infected but very few can actually remove spyware. I know this sounds a little backwards but it's just the way it is.
