Far too many people who get started within the eBook publishing industry somehow manage to mess up the most important thing of all: picking eBook topics that have the potential to be popular. Let me just go ahead and tell you how to do this so that you can go out and create an eBook that at least has a fighting chance of being purchased by large quantities of people.

The first step is to figure out what large quantities of people are interested in. Do you understand? We're not talking about what you're interested in. Nobody cares. Really, nobody cares. Get that through your head. You need to go to a local bookstore and browse the magazine section. Look at the topics being discussed. If you're reviled and disgusted by the trashy topics that appear to be popular, compartmentalize those feelings. You need to think along the lines of creating eBooks that cater to the topic you see listed. Does that make sense? In other words, you want to make sure that the eBooks you create generally cater to the same people who might be interested in one of the magazines you see. Why?

Few people realize this, but the magazine industry is based on advertising. That's how a magazine primarily makes its money. So advertisers will only advertise if they can earn a positive return on investment. That means that the people being targeted by a magazine topic, regardless of how trashy it might seem to you, probably spend money buying things advertised within the magazine itself. This is an incredibly valuable insight because it immediately tells you that the topic attracts people with some disposable income.
