Termite inspection is essential even if you do not have termites at home. Having them done annually is a good precaution to prevent the infestation of these structure-wrecking insects. If you have had a recent infestation, then it is good to have regular termite inspection every three to four months.

Ideally, a professional must perform termite inspection. But if you are so keen in doing the inspection yourself then you can certainly do so with these guides.

1. Try to look for mud looking surfaces on wood surfaces. Termites eat away wood and they try to patch or cover it up with their feces or dirt which looks like that of mud.

2. When termite fly around and swarm, they commonly shed wings. Their wings are characteristically lengthier compared to that of a moth. Usually, when termites are infesting your house, then these wings are found in big piles.

3. Appearance of actual termites inside a wood or in swarms

4. Appearance of termite tubes or little tunnel of earth running in the soil of your backyard near a source of wood.

5. Holes in wooden surfaces. Termites burrow inside woods where they eat it up.

6. Inspect moist and dark areas. Termites thrive in areas that are moist and where they have abundant food source that is wood. Most types of termites live underneath the soil where moisture is most plentiful. Check crawl spaces, attics, plumbing, pipes, and cabinets for presence of termites and holes and sawdust.

7. Tapping wood surfaces and eliciting a hollow sound may suggest presence of termites eating the interior part of the wood.

Although you can do termite inspections by yourself, still, it is important to employ professional help. These people are more adept with termite inspection and its eradication as well.
