Internet marketing or lame opportunity hunting?
Yes I am making a living from my website and i am earning a respectable income every month but I am not one of those who call themselves internet marketers.
During the past few years a group of people who call themselves internet marketers started hyping "Proven systems that can you rich over night" , "Get rich quick promises that can make you millions" and "making 10,000 in one hour campaigns".
If marketing was a man, he would have told them, "Don't ever mention my name in your websites and don't ever talk to me again", of course I am assuming that Mr marketing was a polite man.
How to not sell anything online
I have written many articles that can help you increase your sales online and I gave many tips that can help you double your sales but in this article I will give you some tips that can help you not to sell anything online. Want to know them? Here you go:
* Let people land on your pitch page directly: asking someone to buy your product without letting him trust you first is like asking a girl who never saw you before over the phone to marry you. see my article How to gain the online user's trust
* Use the "P" word in your pitch page: PROVEN, the proven system for making 10 billions while sleeping. Using words such as proven is like going inside a police station having a band on your head written on it "Robber, catch me"
* Use yellow highlights : What? Everyone is using them!! Yes, and that's why most of them fail to make a single sale. As a psychologist I can confidently say that using red or yellow in your page will definitely give negative experience to your potential customers. Both colors are irritating and can easily trigger bad Moods, moreover, all "internet marketers" who make millions over night use them and so people will lose their trust in you the moment they see them.
* Have nothing but pitch pages on your site: Who are you? Why should I pay you money? What is your competitive advantage and why should I buy your product? Even if you answered these questions on a pitch page its not enough to gain a potential customer's trust. People trust normal pages much more than pitch pages and so having some normal pages with useful content is a must if you want to sell something online.
* Have no long term goals: So do all "Internet marketers" really fail to sell anything online? The answer is no, lots of them manage to make few dollars in the beginning but this never lasts. Unless you have a vision, a strong competitive advantage and good strategic planning your website will disappear and no one will cry over it.
Real marketing
I completed my Master in business administration and I didn't pass by any of the cool marketing tips I found online that can make people rich overnight during studying for my masters. All I found was topics related to understanding what a consumer really wants, finding his unmet needs, researching his wants and understanding how he thinks.
The word marketing is now covered with mud because of the millions of websites that gave it incorrect definitions and because of the bad practices followed by people who call themselves marketers. If you want to sell products online successfully then you must use the real marketing not the one you will find when you search for the a keyword such as "How to become rich overnight".
