How to Make Your Own Chocolate Cake

Chocolate cake is a timeless favorite for any occasion among children and grown-ups alike. Here are the simple steps on how to make one. You will need two round pans about eight or nine inches in diameter, parchment paper for the bottom of the pan, a large bowl, a small bowl and a wooden spoon.

Ingredients:

* 1/4 cup of butter
* 1 cup of sugar
* 150g of golden caster sugar
* 2 eggs
* 1 cup of flour
* 1/3 cup of yeast
* 1/2 teaspoon of salt
* 1 teaspoon of baking soda
* 3 tablespoons of cocoa
* 150g chocolate
* 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
* 1/2 cup of water
* 1/2cup of milk

If you're planning on making a larger chocolate cake, all you have to do is double the amount of the ingredients. Now here's how to transform those ingredients into a culinary delight step by step.

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Put some butter and flour on the pan. Cut some parchment paper to fit the pan and put some butter and flour on it. This will prevent the cake from sticking to the pan and getting ruined.
  3. Beat the butter till it's soft.
  4. Add in the sugar and mix well.
  5. Beat the eggs and mix them with the butter and sugar mixture.
  6. Add in the milk, water and vanilla extract.
  7. In a separate bowl, put in the flour, salt, baking soda, cocoa and yeast together.
  8. Pour the wet ingredients slowly into the bowl of dry ingredients and mix them thoroughly.
  9. Now pour the ingredients on to a pan and put them in the oven. If your pan measures eight or nine inches in diameter, baking should take 30-35 minutes; if you opt to bake with a 9 x 12 inches rectangular pan, baking will take 25 minutes.
  10. After baking, try inserting a toothpick into the center of the chocolate cake. It should come out clean if the cake is done. Also, the cake should spring back when you press it. Once done, you can allow it to cool in the pan for five to fifteen minutes before transferring it to where it can cool completely.

You can also frost your chocolate cake if you wish. Here's how to make some fudge frosting.

  1. Heat 200mL of cream until nearly boiling point.
  2. Take the cream off the heat and put in 50g of butter, three tablespoons of honey and 200g of dark chocolate broken into bits. Allow the chocolate to melt in about five minutes and stir.

Here are other suggestions that can give your chocolate cake a twist. You can try making the cake in a smaller bowl for a richer variety. If you want chocolate cake with a crunch, add some Oreo cookies. You can put grated chocolate, a cup of chocolate chips or hazelnut on the cake. Whatever you want to add, experimenting is half the fun.
