In the beginning you can get very lost on the internet. I remember when I started; all I wanted to do was find out how I could make my own website. As with most people who decide to make money online, it isn't a question of not being able to, but how.

So, where do you start? Here are some steps that will get you going.

1. Domain name and hosting account

First things first, you will need a domain name. This is the IP address of your website which has been covered up with a name. A lot easier to remember than a set of numbers! Anyway, you can buy one of these from a domain registrar very cheaply for a minimum of 1 year.

For your site to be viewed on the internet you will not only need a domain name but also a hosting account. Every single website will have hosting which is connected to a web host's servers who supply space on the internet. This is a small monthly fee depending on the package; to start with you only need the basic one.

2. Content for your site

You will need to download a web editor so you can create the content on your computer. As you are a marketer who wants to make money and not a web designer, WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web editor is sufficient. If you can use a word processor, you can use one of these. You don't need to know a lot about HTML, it does it all for you!

3. Uploading using FTP

So, you've created the content, now all you have to do is upload it to the internet. This is done by using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) which is some software you can download enabling you to connect to your web host.

There is a learning curve to creating your own website but once learnt you would have done more than most people. You could of course take short cuts, however, it is better to take the time in the beginning and learn about the web business.
