The early learning of a child holds a lot of importance. It is the time when you are focusing on the base of your little one, on which he/she will stand all his/her life. You provide them all the things of their interest such as toys, sports equipment, sports cards, football cards, etc. Another thing that you must provide is basic education. And, when you are talking about education, math might seem quite challenging. Many children find math to be the most difficult subject. However, with simple tips, you can make the learning fun for the kid.
Kids really like it if you make the learning practical. Moreover, activity-based learning is always remembered. For this purpose, move out. Go on a hunt and develop games that can strengthen mathematical concepts of the kids. For instance, a treasure hunt can be made exciting if you include a few math concepts. As a clue to find the lost treasure, you can use word problems. Solving the word problems would move the children a step ahead in finding the treasure.
You can also take the children shopping. Shopping can be real fun. Hand the kids a sum of money and take them to a departmental store. With the sum of money they have, you can teach them about better buys, money counting, money conversions, discount calculations, etc. With the money they have in hand, they can buy their choice of stuff and go back home happily.
When teaching little ones about counting, use fun objects like marshmallows, cereals, cheerios, fruit loops, M&M's, etc. Similarly, when teaching them about fractions, use a pizza, cake or a pie. Teach them about fractions when you are distributing. You can create small word problems on your own. For instance if there are 4 people altogether, and the cake is divided into 8 fractions, what will be the share of each of the persons?
Another activity where children can learn about money calculations is through a lemonade stand. Many children hoist a lemonade stand as a summer activity. They will learn about counting money, setting their own prices, rounding off, and profit as well.
Online math games are equally good for mental development. Through these, kids will be able to learn about word problems and would also get proper feedback about their performance. Different levels can further enhance their practice. The attractive game design and user interface will surely attract children while they play and learn.
A great idea to teach math concepts is through rhymes. Usually, laws of conversion and multiplication of mathematical signs are taught through this method. Children can learn the song within a short period of time and recall it easily when they are to solve a problem.
Many of us must have hated math when we were young. However, as we grew up and practiced, we realized it was one exciting subject. When it comes to teaching, you must teach children that knowing the rules of the game is the first step, followed by practice which makes up the second step. Once they excel at these, nothing is more exciting than math!
