Many parents dread the day when summer has to end and school has to start. It is not because, they do not want their children to learn but getting back to school is very expensive. However with resourcefulness and creativity, we can make great savings by making handmade school supplies.

The first thing you have to do is to start preparing early by doing research for the things that your children will be using for the school year. Every grade level have different needed supplies, so check with the school's handbook for the list of school supplies, uniforms and backpacks. However, regardless of grade levels, the common supplies for school are pencils, ball pens, hi-lighter pens, erasers, binders, notebooks, folders, glue sticks, paper clips, stapler and staples, book covers, lunch box and a backpack.

Some listed supplies could not be made at home. Hence, to make great savings, consider buying the supplies in bulk. While for the rest, consider making handmade school supplies at your home together with your children. You do not only save money, but you create a bonding time with the kids.

Handmade school supplies are now "in" among students who are eco-conscious. Handmade book covers are great way to distinguish your book among your classmates. Handmade papers are easy to make and can be done even by kids. One great idea for the notebooks is to gather old ones and compile all unused pages and staple them all together. When it is impossible to have a stapler to bind the papers, there is always an answer to every prayer: Handmade staples using paper. Who would have thought that handmade staples are plausible? Read on to know how to make handmade staples out of the paper itself.

Instruction:

1. To start making your handmade staples, align the papers together.
2. Then locate a fold point on the papers. This would be about an inch from the top and an inch on the left side of the paper.
3. Fold the corners backward and make a light crease on the fold. You should have a triangle by now.
4. Cut two incisions about 1/4 inches long into the fold. The incisions should be parallel to each other and approximately 1/2 inches apart.
5. Fold the part between the two incisions toward the back and then crease.
6. Then you have handmade staples for your papers.
