If you live in a very hot and dry place, you may have to consider putting in a sprinkler system. This will cost you a lot of money to have installed and also to run it year round. It will however save you a lot of time from manually having to water. If you live in a cool place, you will most likely not have to water the yard very much.
Mowing the lawn is something else you will need to consider. Will you be doing it? Will you hire someone to do it? If you all are going to hire someone to cut your lawn, you will need to see how much this will cost. You should also plan on having it cut once every two weeks dear in the summer months. Depending on where you live, you may also have to cut it a little before and after summer. This cost can add up over time. Make sure you understand and plan for this expense if you are not going to cut the grass yourself.
