If you have high BP then it's simply not an option to leave it untreated. If you do then you are setting yourself up to have a heart attack or a stroke - and in some people the hypertension also leads on to problems with your memory and even dementia.
We all must be more blood pressure aware - if you have it then please do something about it soon.
But here's the issue for many people. The modern medications that can help us often make us feel unwell in their own way. The side effects can be very unpleasant and some simply stop taking their treatment as a result.
So what can you do if you are stuck in this dilemma? Can you find more effective and natural ways to lower your blood pressure levels?
I'm a doctor with an interest in hypertension and I certainly would never suggest that you stop or change your medication doses without speaking to your own doctor first but what follows below are my easy to follow suggestions. If you use some of these ideas then you can expect to drop your BP readings quite a bit - if you use all of them you'll be making a big difference to your heath profile.
- Try to go out walking for a total of thirty minutes each day. You don't need to do this all in one go - two fifteen minute walks will be just fine
- Reduce your salt intake by taking three days each week with virtually no salt in your diet. It's not easy but you can do it if you focus on checking packaging and aim for natural foods - I go for fresh fruit, fruit smoothies, raw veg with dips and yogurt.
- Drop your body weight by five percent. That's seven pounds if you weigh 140 pounds - twenty if you weigh two hundred and so on. Again - not easy but you can achieve this if you focus
- Learn to relax more using a breathing technique. Yoga can help with this - so can self hypnosis CD's or MP3 files. You can also buy breathing systems that teach you to relax using biofeedback.
- Take a blood pressure supplement every day. There are lots of these available and I recommend Alistrol - it's a natural combination of several active ingredients and seems to work for most people who try it. Other options include tomato extracts like Lycomato or omega three oil concentrated capsules.
The supplements might be the key for many of you. Part of the effect seems to be that Alistrol contains natural diuretics for high blood pressure reduction - but I'll say it again... don't make changes to your own existing medications without speaking to your doctor first. And don't simply add a supplement without making some of the other changes suggested above.
If you have hypertension and you want a more natural way to lower your levels then please give these suggestions a try. They're easy to follow and they really do work.
