To begin with, know that there is nothing that can replace the need for good nutrition, exercise and an overall healthy lifestyle. There are no shortcuts in life that can achieve good health without putting in the effort. However, if you ever wanted to know how to look slimmer before you being your life long journey in changing to a healthier lifestyle then there are some simple ways in which you can get this instant gratification.

Changing your posture is probably one of the most instant and simplest ways on how to look slimmer and where you can suddenly look, and feel, better yet it is probably something that most of us have neglected.

Have you ever seen the guy with the big gut walk by a pretty woman and then quickly suck in his gut? Well, this does have an effective, if not subtle, way of instantly changing your appearance, doesn't it? So, while these men have the right idea you obviously can't walk around all day with your gut sucked in (unless you where a girdle). Instead, changing your posture can have an effect on how others perceive you and how you feel about yourself.

How to Look Slimmer by Adjusting Your Shoulders and Chest

Your mother was right, stand up straight! We probably don't notice it, but most of us walk around and stand in a relaxed position for most of the day, but this is causing us to lower our shoulders and therefore put more emphasis on our unwanted curves. Especially for men, this is important. Think of your body like the letter "S" when you stand like this. If you lowering your shoulders brings in your chest and puts more emphasis on your gut. Standing up straight, with your shoulders back, your chest straight, not inward, will make you look like the letter "T". Simple yet effective. Try it in a mirror a few times. You will notice the change. This is something that is possible to walk around all day doing. You will just need to make a conscious effort for the first while as you will probably revert back to the relaxed position frequently, however eventually it will become natural.

It is thought that, by doing this, you can instantly look 5 to 10 pounds slimmer. Don't forget to keep this up when you're sitting down too. This is where a big gut can really stand out, but adjusting your posture will alleviate that.

There are also other important benefits to standing up straight aside from physical ones. Slouching can have a negative effect on the way people see you and on the way you see yourself. When you slouch, you can sometimes create the impression that you are depressed, insecure, and lack self confidence. People will think that you are not comfortable within who you are. On the other hand, when you stand up straight, with shoulders back, chest straight, head up and looking other people directly in the eye, then you immediately give an impression of someone who is absolutely self confident and happy with who you are.

Keep Your Head Up

Don't forget the importance of keeping your head up. This may not be as important as your shoulders and chest posture on how to look slimmer, but as I mentioned it can have a very positive effect on how others see you. Not to mention it can immediately add up to 2 inches to your height. Many woman, in particular tend to walk with their head looking downward at where they are walking. This can sometimes look submissive or passive. in Take a note from all of the supermodels. Keep your head up when you are walking and look directly in front of you, not downward.

Put this all together and you will instantly start to look slimmer and people will notice a more confident and self assured person in you. Look people in the eyes, walk with your head up, shoulders out and chest straight. In the end you will start to look and feel better. Then you can take that feeling and funnel it into self motivation so that you can start to change the other aspects in your lifestyle, such as your fitness and nutrition habits, that can take a little more time to adjust to, but will be even more beneficial.
