How to Keep a Good Tempo in the Golf Swing

Tempo is one of the most important elements of the golf swing, and yet many people seem to ignore it! If you look at many of the greatest swing on tour (Ernie Els, David Toms, Dustin Johnson, etc.) you will see that most of them have a remarkable tempo. In this article I am going to share a few easy keys that I use to keep a smooth tempo, and lower my scores by 8 shots per round in the process!

1. The first thing that you should do in the golf swing is focus on a smooth takeaway. A smooth takeaway will help you keep good tempo in your golf swing by starting the swing correctly. What I like to do is think "low and slow" on the backswing. This enables me to keep great tempo, and also helps me to establish a wide swing arc.

2. Another important tip to keep a smooth tempo in your golf swing is to make sure that you start your downswing by rotating your hips toward to the target. So many golfers start the downswing with their arms, and by doing this you will not only ruin your tempo by lose power as well. Starting your downswing with your hips allows you to create effortless power, which in turn will keep great tempo and increase your distance.

3. Last but not least you must focus on balance. Balance is a crucial element of the golf swing, and is closely associated with tempo. If you want to keep a smooth swing then make sure you do not shift your weight too far backward or forward in the golf swing. Of course a little bit of weight shift is required, but just don't overdo it.

When I improved my tempo, my golf scores dropped and so will yours!
