You are dribbling down the court and the basket is up ahead. You take two steps and jump and can't make it up to the basket. But, what if there was an exercise you could do to help you improve your jump so you could make that dunk? Well, there is one, and I want to tell you about it.
Although some people believe that athletic ability, including jumping, is genetic, that is not true. There are some people that are born with a better vertical jump, and those people have it in their genes. But, not everyone who has a great dunk or athletic ability has these inherent traits through their genes or because of the color of their skin. It is because they practice, and these are the exercises that the pros use to improve their skills regarding the vertical jump.
The first exercise is leg lunges. If you really want to dunk like a pro, then you need to add these to your workout routine. Leg lunges can be done in many different ways. You can do lateral lunges, side lunges or diagonal lunges. And, there are variations on all of these. If you do lunges consistently in your workout routine, you will see a difference in your ability to perform the vertical jump.
The second exercise is a calf raise. Such an easy exercise, but can seriously build up that calf muscle, which is where your strength will come from when your feet get ready to leave the ground. There are various machines in the gym that you can use, but it is just as easy to do at home. Walk your stairs, if you have them, and if you don't, walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator. Be sure to stay on the balls of your feet while going up and down. This will help you get a well defined and very strong calf muscle.
Incorporate both these exercises into your workout routine, or even just do them while you are watching television, and you will certainly be able to hang onto the rim in no time.
